5.Shot blasting is important in the production. Shot is fired at the steel. The force of the shot against the surface displaces dirt and scale, and also indents the steel creating a "rough" surface, approx. 70 microns deep. When paint is sprayed onto this clean abraded surface it adheres well and provides a longer life for the paint system.

Prefabrication primers can be applied, immediately after blast cleaning, to maintain the reactive blast cleaned surface in a rust free condition through the fabrication process until final painting can be undertaken.
